Paintings By Mona
My Artistic Journey
I am Mona LeBlond, an artist whose heart speaks through colour. I approach each canvas not with a plan, but with stillness, letting emotion guide my hand. I never sketch; I surrender. My art is an intuitive flow, where each broad stroke breathes and each colour speaks what words cannot.
Rooted in years of experiences, my paintings are shaped by silent moments, by the unseen emotional weight I heard and saw. Art became my way to release, to transform the weight into something tender and visible.
Nature is both my subject and my mirror. In rivers, stones, skies, and trees, I find echoes of my own emotional landscape. My work invites viewers to pause, to feel, and to connect with the quiet beauty of being human.
I paint not for others but for presence. My practice is an offering a gentle hymn to healing, vulnerability and the harmony between nature and the soul.
My Bio
I was born in Timmins, Ontario to French Canadian parents. I grew up with 5 siblings (including a twin) attending the French educational system through grade 13. I later pursued nursing studies in Toronto, Ottawa, and Hamilton, completing my nurse practitioner program. I have been married to Marc, a retired high school teacher, for over 50 years. And together we have three adult children who work for the federal government in Ottawa. As a child, I enjoyed doodling, sketching, and spending time in nature: camping, fishing, and exploring the wilderness. I am a breast cancer survivor and I also live with the sequelae of Lyme Disease. I discovered my passion for the fine arts at the age of 69 after a neighbor invited me to join weekly painting sessions. I now paint every day and often into the night for I require little sleep. I produce on average one canvas per day. My work spans both representational (non-abstract) pieces often inspired by landscapes and nature, and vibrant abstracts. Painting has become a meditative practice for me creating a personal sanctuary of peace and emotional expression. My art has gained recognition with pieces featured in galleries including mentions of placements in New York, Russia, London and other online sites. One of my paintings was also selected for the cover of an anthology entitled “Road to Recovery: Pandemic’s Aftermath”. Critics and Masters have praised my rapid development over a short period of time.
Artist Statement
Art, for me, is a daily act of discovery and honesty. I began painting at 69, and each canvas is a conversation with colour, memory and the natural world that has always inspired me. My works move between abstraction and representation, but always seek to capture the emotional undertones, whether it is the hush of the northern forest, the riot of spring or the quiet wisdom of a familiar face. My process is intuitive and physical, layering acrylics to build texture and depth allowing each painting to evolve in its own time. I believe art should be felt as much as seen, and I hope my works will invite viewers to pause, reflect and find their own stories within the brushstrokes.
